OHM Advisors is growing! We are looking for a responsible Construction Manager to oversee the workflow at our Field Services Group to support the efforts within our Nashville, Tennessee office. The Construction Manager will be responsible for coaching, resolving issues and serving as a link between subordinates and upper management.

The ideal candidate will be a competent individual who will be able to guide and train employees. He/She should be well-versed in processes under the role's responsibility, and shall be results-driven and focused.

The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate an established career in Civil Engineering with a minimum 10 years of experience. TDOT and/or Municipal construction experience is required. Candidate must also have experience with public water and wastewater systems, along with storm water systems.  Experience in managing TDOT Contracts and multi-faceted Municipal projects is a plus. 

The Construction Manager will oversee the appointed project staff and support service consultants to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the project plans and specifications, as well as requirements of the contract and the expectations of the client. Reporting directly to the Director of Construction services, the Construction Manager is the primary interface with the owner and the contractor and with the engineer of record and regulatory representatives. In addition to providing construction management on all project phases from procurement, through bid, pre-construction, construction, commissioning, start-up and close-out phases, the Construction Manager will also assist in new business development opportunities. 

The goal is to ensure that operations are carried out productively so as to ensure profitability and sustainable growth.

Experience with Tennessee agencies, including the Communities in the Nashville Metropolitan area and TDOT is a plus. Projects will require working with a multidisciplinary team of engineering, planners and technicians and will range from preliminary engineering, studies to final design/construction documents, and ensuring proper project construction.

  Responsibilities:

  • Set goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with corporate initiatives and vision, and communicates them to subordinates
  • Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties and responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or supervise activities of Construction Inspection personnel on assigned project(s)
  • Provide oversight and direction to all activities associated with construction management, contract administration, contract planning/execution, schedules, change order management, and quality assurance oversight with field inspection functions, as required
  • Monitor employee responsibilities and provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Pass information on from upper management to employees and vice versa
  • Ensure that the company safety policies are being adhered to by staff and that company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work are done in a safe manner
  • Preform and submit performance reviews for direct reports and ensure others in the group are performing performance reviews on their direct reports
  • Assist in the decisions on rewards and promotions based on performance
  • Hire and train new employees
  • Make decisions and recommendations that can improve corporate relationship with client and profitability of managed projects
  • Ensure adherence to legal and company policies and procedures and undertake disciplinary actions if the need arises
  • Develop new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients or geographical area

  Requirements

  • Proven experience as manager or relevant role
  • Familiarity with company policies and legal guidelines of the field
  • Ensure all client, company, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to properly
  • Ability to learn a variety of job descriptions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership skills

 The minimum qualifications for this position include:

High school diploma; BS/BA in management or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering will be considered an advantage.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering with an emphasis in municipal or transportation engineering.

Minimum of 10 years of experience managing municipal infrastructure and DOT projects.

Minimum of 6 years of management experience, including client interface and solicitation, marketing and business development, planning and execution, project delivery, and staff supervision 

Ability to oversee an engineering team, provide adequate management, technical advice and support to the members of the project team, and ensure work is completed within scope, schedule and budget.

Experience and/or interested in business development, marketing & sales.

Strong verbal presentation, interpersonal, organizational and written communication skills.

This position requires a high level of leadership, management and coordination of the field services discipline, marketing and business development efforts in the community, and client/project/quality/service management.
