Your Responsibilities

  • Obtain an understanding of the work associated with road, bridge, and municipal utility construction inspection
  • Acquire knowledge of construction practices, including the proper use of construction materials
  • Interpret specifications on construction projects
  • Perform a wide variety of material tracking including testing of concrete, lab and field result of  aggregates and density testing
  • Record each week Contractors have worked on MDOT Form 1954, Certified Payroll Status Log by reviewing information in Inspector Daily Reports
  • Review submitted Contractor Payrolls
  • Complete MDOT's 40-point checklists to track project closeout status
  • Contact and send correspondence to Contractors as necessary regarding Payrolls and Insufficient Materials
  • Ensure follow up on all delinquent and deficient Contractor Payrolls
  • Review and complete MDOT Minimum Wage Rate Interviews, Form 1156, after they are submitted by Inspectors in the field.  Follow up with Inspector or Contractor if discrepancies are found
  • Track and submit information for Semi-Annual Wage Compliance Reports for each TSC as necessary
  • File various items and documents for projects, both hard files, and e-filing
  • Reviewing and checking calculations in Inspector Daily Reports and sketches
  • Utilizing MDOT's Field Manager and Projectwise software to track all construction project documentation (payrolls, materials, test reports, Inspector Daily Reports, correspondence, shop drawings, contract modifications, estimates, subcontracts, work orders, contractor performance evaluations, etc.)
  • Ensure all files abide by the new MDOT naming convention within Projectwise
  • Compiling and typing correspondence and reports as necessary
  • Assist in creation of contract modifications, estimates, IDRs, approval of materials, etc.
  • Track as-built information for incorporation into project record drawings.
  • Communicate with the project team throughout the project.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • A high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Applicants must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and background check
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present work to the team in a clear and concise manner
  • Computer literacy and the ability to learn new software packages
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Possess strong organization skills
  • Exceedingly well-organized, flexible, self-sufficient, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to professionally interact with a diverse blend of personalities
  • Knowledge of general construction terms and processes
  • Strong math skills
