What You'll Contribute to OHM Advisors

A site civil design engineer plays a key role in assisting our clients with land development opportunities for both the public and private sector.  This position is one where the growth opportunities are abundant in the field of civil engineering.  A site civil engineer is valuable to the industry by representing a knowledge base in multiple specialties of civil engineering utilities, storm water, water resources, roadway, traffic, geotechnical, structural, construction, surveying, and more.  A career in site civil engineering will expose you to a number of specializations and make you a well-rounded civil engineering expert in our industry! 

Not only do you touch multiple specialties within the civil engineering field, you also work integrally with Architects, Land Planners, Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, as well as other engineering disciplines such as MEP Engineers and Structural Engineers.  The contribution you will develop in this position is helping connect the dots of all of our service offerings within an integrated services model.

 

Your Responsibilities

  • Serve as the design engineer in preparing site-related engineering documents and services for our clients.
  • Working with other project engineers and project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Understanding the project needs and goals to provide our clients with quality services and deliverables
  • Mentoring graduate engineers and interns to ensure their growth in the organization while growing your position in the organization.
  • Ensuring that design documents meet local, state, federal and best practice standards
  • Work with peers to ensure that quality assurance and quality controls are maintained prior to issuing documents externally
  • Use Civil 3D to design projects and author documents through the design process
  • Having a strong understanding of the design process and to be able to work in a team environment on completing projects.
  • Completes complex technical tasks and computations for projects
  • Keeping up to date with the latest industry specific standards, codes, approval agency requirements, and community requirements for Central, Ohio
  • Be a problem solver for the team and for our clients.
  • Keep abreast on the latest technology and trends in our industry. Advise senior leadership on opportunities to provide better quality services to our clients.

Your Team

As a site design project engineer, you will be responsible for working with project engineers and project managers to complete projects in a timely and quality controlled manner.  While your core team is other engineering professionals, you will also be working with a multidisciplinary team of Architects, Engineers, Planners, and Landscape Architects to successfully deliver projects to OHM's clients.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2-5 years of Civil Engineering related experience. Experience in commercial, residential, municipal, parks, and K-12 is preferred but candidates with a passion to learn these areas of expertise will definitely be considered.
  • We are looking for someone who has design experience and/or passion with regards to grading design, water mainline design, sanitary sewer design, roadway systems, storm sewer systems, green infrastructure, and storm water management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is a must.
  • Proficiency in HydroCAD or other storm water modeling applications is preferred.
  • We are looking for someone who has passed their Ohio Engineer in Training exam. Someone with their Professional Engineering license in Ohio is a plus.
  • Savvy with the Microsoft Office suite including Word & Excel. MS Project knowledge is helpful and considered a plus.
  • A candidate needs to be able to contribute to the team using good written and verbal communication skills.
  • We would really be excited if the candidate is already familiar with the City of Columbus and surrounding community process knowledge, plan preparation standards, and someone who knows the players at these various jurisdictions.
